- Exploring the Craft of Visual Novels: A Deep Dive with ebi-hime
Today, we're chatting with the ebi-hime. We chat all about visual novels, what inspires her work, and much more! Be sure to check out all of their links after you read all about it. 1. Tell us a little about yourself and work? Hello! My name is ebi and I write VNs \o/ I’ve been writing since I was a child, and I’ve been writing VNs specifically since 2013… So, I’ve been writing for quite a long time! I’ve always been very passionate about writing. I used to write a lot of fanfiction when I was a teenager, though I didn’t branch out into writing original stories since I started working on my own VNs in 2013. I’m mostly known for writing yuri VNs, but I’ve written some BL, otome, and BxG stuff too. I’ll write almost anything if I think it’s interesting. In terms of genres, meanwhile, I like writing romance, slice of life, historical fiction, and horror. There’s quite a lot of genres I like playing around in! 2.Tell us about being a visual novel creator? It’s not very glamorous haha ;;; I was fortunate enough to be able to quit my full-time job to focus on VNs, though I do accept freelance commissions for other companies on the side. Since I set my own schedule, I spend most of the work week at home, sitting at my desk, staring at a Word document and waiting for inspiration to strike… And I tend to drink a lot of tea while I do this (I mean, I am British, so I guess it’s a bit of a stereotype haha) It has been very rewarding being able to devote so much of my time to writing (though I find proofreading and coding rather less rewarding lol) I’ve also been fortunate enough to work with a lot of very talented artists and composers who help bring my stories to life. It’s a lot of fun, really! 3.What inspires your work? I pull inspiration from all sorts of places! I got into writing yuri VNs specifically because I was disappointed there were so very yuri VNs out there which had been translated into English, other than the Sono Hanabira series, which is fine… But the SonoHana VNs are very light and fluffy, and they’re very smutty. There isn’t a lot of variety there. I wanted to write some historical yuri, some atmospheric yuri, and some fluffy yuri which didn’t have a large focus on r18 content… So, I pretty much wanted to write yuri content that wasn’t widely available (in the VN format) in English. There’s a lot more yuri VNs available out there now, however, so I’ve gotten into writing in more genres recently, BL included. I’m inspired by other visual novels, books, song lyrics, dreams, events which have happened in my life, events which have happened to other people… All sorts of things, really! 4.What does pride month mean to you? I think Pride month is all about acceptance, and in giving a spotlight and a platform to people who might otherwise not have a chance to get their voices out there. Full disclosure, I feel a bit insincere answering a question about the meaning of pride month when I’m a cis woman, and I don’t think I’ve faced any particular form of discrimination during my life. I feel like it’s not really my place to define what Pride month means, and I don’t want to speak over other people. I do think it’s important to listen when other queer people talk about their experiences, though! 5.Where can people support your work? You can buy my VNs on my Steam developer page or my Itch.io account, primarily! https://store.steampowered.com/developer/ebi-hime https://ebihime.itch.io/ I do have a few of my VNs available on other store fronts, like Denpasoft and Mangagamer, and a few of my VNs are available on consoles: The Language of Love, Blackberry Honey, Strawberry Vinegar, A Winter’s Daydream, and The Fairy’s Song to be more specific. None of these are BL, though… I’ll have to work on finishing up a few more of my WIP BL titles so I can share them with people! 6.Tell us about anything you want! Can be something you are working on, something positive, or something totally random! I think Yuel, the cute and incredibly troubled protagonist of my grimdark BxG VN, All Ashes and Illusions, is the best! He’s really cute! (Did I say that already?) I think he’s so adorable, I felt compelled to write a whole bunch of spinoff VNs about him, despite Ashes not being particularly popular. He’s the main character in Unluckily in Love and All Idleness and Ephemera, which are both BL VNs! I gave poor Yuel such a miserable fate in Ashes when he tried to pursue a woman, I felt obliged to give him a boyfriend to take care of him haha… It’s because I fell in love with Yuel so much that I got into writing BL at all, actually haha ;;; I think he’s a very complex character! There’s a lot of layers to him which can be explored! Also, he’s very cute! Anyway, I like him a lot, and I’d like it if more people could read about him too! -- Contact us HERE to share your experiences, showcase your work, or simply geek out about all things BL. Let's keep the magic alive and thriving!

Hey there, movie enthusiasts! It's Connie, and today I'm absolutely thrilled to chat about "Call Me By Your Name". Check out the official trailer: Elio, is just chilling at his family's Italian Riviera villa over the summer. Then, enter Oliver, a total stud and brainy scholar from the U.S., who's around for a quick academic stop. As the story unfolds, it's like watching the most heart-tugging romance movie, except it's all happening in Elio's head, and he's giving us the play-by-play. Elio, our introverted hero, is completely smitten by Oliver's charm and confidence. Like the "analyze every single word and move" type of attraction, but he's also trying to play it cool. Then Elio and Oliver become friends, bonding over books, music, deep convos, and workouts. Things get complicated when Elio plucks up the courage to spill the truth about his feelings. That's when the real drama begins. They go through all the confusing stages of young love, trying to figure out what they want without ruining what they have. As summer winds down, they have a sweet escape to Rome, creating moments that Elio will remember for the rest of his life. Fast forward several years, Elio looks back on that summer with Oliver as the game-changer, the benchmark for all his future romances. - Navigating the World of Love and Attraction in 'Eishi Tsuji Doesn't Do Love'
Looking for a new #yaoi to read? If you love drama, then "Eishi Tsuji Doesn't Do Love" is one epic fight you wouldn't want to miss. This roller coaster of emotions, desires, and denial is a page-turner from start to finish. Eishi Tsuji, our main character, is one interesting person. Working overseas assignments, saving colleagues from street assailants, all while harboring a one-sided crush on Mimori. Truly a man who does it all. But Tsuji's unique way of handling things (opting for a friends-with-benefits arrangement) is the lighthearted escape we didn't know we needed. This "no-strings-attached" scenario is painted with an entertaining mix of humor and rawness that keeps you interested! Now, what's a good plot without a twist? When Tsuji's secret love Mimori starts dating another man, we're thrown into a whirlwind of heartache and desperation. Tsuji's sudden, reckless confession is definitely amazing and interesting. It's this emotional desperation that brings out a side of Tsuji we hadn't seen. The brutal rejection that follows is a stomach-churning, but necessary scene, adding depth and human vulnerability to Tsuji's character. Here comes Nakano, our wild card. Nakano's approach to the situation - helping Tsuji "drown his sorrows" in the most visceral way possible - is both scandalous and intriguing. And just when you think you've seen it all, Nakano declares his long-standing love for Tsuji, turning the narrative on its head. "Eishi Tsuji Doesn't Do Love" is all about navigating the murky waters of love and attraction, told in a refreshingly unconventional way. Whether it's Tsuji's denial of his own feelings, Nakano's bold declarations, or Mimori's seemingly oblivious existence, every character brings their own flavor to the drama, making it a hearty meal of tangled emotions. The art is also iconic. Rating: 4.5/5 Stars. Like my writing? Check out some of my work here on BLU. I typically review #Manhwa as well!

- Baking Steamy Connections: "The Baker on the First Floor" Manhwa Review
"The Baker on the First Floor" is a super cool #Manhwa that follows the life of Soo Sun Hwa, a comic book writer living on the outskirts of Seoul. Hwa has a tiny apartment that he can barely afford, but he's determined to pursue his dreams. He's creating comics about boys love. Even though Hwa doesn't have much personal experience, he believes it's the perfect genre to express himself. Things get interesting when Hwa steps out of his cave and bumps into Moo Goong Ha, the new baker in town. Hwa tries to help him out and ends up accidentally showing him some steamy scenes from his comic on his computer. Awkward, much? Ha takes off, but Hwa can't help but wonder if there's something more going on between them. Hwa has to deal with some real-life struggles too, like being broke and hungry. He's scraping the bottom of the barrel, no more instant noodles left. Can't even afford delivery, and his favorite Chinese joint stopped serving single dishes. He's eyeing the supermarket down South, but there's a catch. He wants to avoid running into Ha again. So he comes up with a brilliant plan: he'll wear a disguise and grab some ramen real quick. No way Ha will recognize him, right? But who cares if he does? Hwa thinks he won't even talk to him or anything. Famous last words, my friend! Hwa finally decides to take Ha up on his offer to visit his bakery. And boy, does he get more than he bargained for! Hwa can't help but notice how Ha's got this showbiz vibe with his voice and looks. But things start getting seriously hot when their eyes meet. Hwa's feeling all kinds of weird sensations for someone he barely knows. And when Ha serves him a strawberry dessert and mentions wasted bread, it's like a foreshadowing of something bigger brewing between them. Read this manhwa to learn more! This isn't just about ranking these series, but rather about appreciating what they've brought to the table and how they've resonated with audiences around the world. So these aren't ranked as the best, but are some notable mentions. Some Modern Boys Love Dramas to Check Out! Grey Rainbow (2016) This rollercoaster of a love story centers around our mains, Nuer and Porsche. Nuer is the son of an elephant camp owner, which, let's be real, is pretty much the most epic background story ever. Cause elephants. And then we have Porsche, our future legal eagle. Our boys find themselves as university roommates, and if that doesn't spell out 'romantic tension', I don't know what does. Grey Rainbow is basically one big, glorious exploration of the 'more than friends, less than lovers' dynamic. It's about Nuer and Porsche trying to keep their feelings under wraps, each one tiptoeing around their emotions like it's a game of Minesweeper. And honestly? It's utterly heart-wrenching. The beauty of this show is that it isn't just about love. It's about the struggle to come to terms with your feelings, about trying to maintain a friendship while your heart is all, "Um, excuse me, I think I'm in love?" And you're like, "Could you not right now? I'm trying to pass Law 101." The tension between Nuer and Porsche is palpable. It's like they're constantly dancing around each other, trying to keep their feelings on the DL. But let's be real, we're all sitting here shouting at our screens like, "Just kiss already!" In short, Grey Rainbow is a beautiful exploration of love and friendship, with all its complexities and challenges. It's about learning to navigate your feelings, about understanding that sometimes, love isn't easy, but it's always worth it. The Yearbook (2021) You've got to check out "The Yearbook". It's a time capsule of emotions that transports you back to the tumultuous 2000s. At the heart of it, we have Phob and Nut, two best buds who once swore to chase their dreams together. It's like a pact sealed in the stars, right? Well, not quite. Someone breaks the promise (the audacity!), leading to a fallout of epic proportions. What we get next is a real-life showdown of broken dreams, lingering pain, and a friendship left in tatters. It's like watching a train wreck in slow motion, and you can't tear your eyes away. Fast forward four years, and a yearbook (the nerve of nostalgia, am I right?) drags them back into each other's orbit. Secrets unravel, truths are spat out, and we're left wondering if their friendship can survive the onslaught. Will they rekindle their bond or will they accept the brutal hand of reality and let bygones be bygones? "The Yearbook" isn't just another BL series. It's a poignant trip down memory lane, a journey through friendship and dreams, and a stark reminder of the reality that not all promises are meant to be kept. If you're ready for a heavy dose of early 2000s nostalgia and a masterclass in emotional storytelling, then buckle up, "The Yearbook" is going to be a ride you won't forget! Soulmate (2020) Prepare to be totally swept off your feet! It's a heart-melting journey of James and Sky who've got a thing going on that's more than just a lucky draw of life. Watch "Soulmate" if you're ready to question the existence of fate and ready to root for a love story that seems to be scripted by the cosmos itself. It's about love, life, and a whole lot of "is this a coincidence or what?" DNA Says I Love You (2022) We've got childhood buddies Pu Le Jian, Zhuang Xi Wen, and Xie Yu He, living their best life and promising they'd stick together 'til the end. But as we all know, life happens, right? And, in a cruel twist of fate, Le Jian and Xi Wen get pulled apart. Can you even handle it? Because I can't. Fast forward to the present, and our boy Le Jian is trying to keep his YouTube adventure channel afloat. It's like watching your favorite small-time band trying to hit the big leagues - you're rooting for them, but it's a bumpy ride. Now, enter stage right, the enigmatic Amber. She pops into the scene, declaring she's a mega fan of Le Jian (who isn't, amirite?) and spills the beans about a place called Guilai Abbey. Now, I don't know about you, but this mysterious location screams adventure to me! The stage is set for a wild ride as Le Jian dives headfirst into the unknown, armed with Amber's tip and his unwavering spirit. It's a deliciously exciting blend of friendship, separation, struggle, and the unpredictable twist of fate. So grab your snacks, get comfy, and prepare to join Le Jian on his YouTube journey into the mysterious Guilai Abbey. He's convinced that Jung Woo needs to get back on the horse, and he's willing to stake his own future to make it happen. Talk about dedication, right? But here's the thing - Jung Hyun's spidey senses are tingling. He's not quite convinced that Tae Young is all sunshine and rainbows. His suspicions are piqued, and he tries to keep Jung Woo away from the publisher. But alas! Tae Young's charisma is hard to resist, and Jung Woo finds himself drawn towards him. Will he lean towards the man who stood by him in his darkest times, or will he give in to the charm of the ambitious publisher who promises a brighter future? Sometimes, it's just the beginning of something even more beautiful. And this story, my friends, is all that and a bag of chips Each of these dramas represents a unique voice in the chorus of stories that make up the BL genre, adding their own distinct flavors to an ever-evolving narrative.
