But let's park our Tarlos wagon for a moment and turn the spotlight to the leading man, the force behind T.K.'s existence - Owen Strand. His role in this narrative is not just as T.K.'s father, but as a bedrock of acceptance, a pillar of support, and an embodiment of unconditional love. The charm here lies in the sheer authenticity of Owen's character. He's not an exaggerated, over-the-top caricature of a supportive parent, but rather a genuine, nuanced portrayal of a father whose love for his child is not dictated by the child's sexual orientation. - The Bowuigi Ship's Magical Influence on the Super Mario Fandom
Let's dive into the high-score worthy world of Bowuigi, the ship that has taken the Super Mario Bros. fandom by storm, and analyze what makes it so irresistibly appealing. The unlikely pairing of Bowser, the fiery antagonist we love to hate, and Luigi, the shy, kind-hearted hero, has become a Tumblr sensation, proving that even in the Mushroom Kingdom, opposites do attract. Think about it. Bowser, the assertive and unabashed villain, embarks on relentless quests to kidnap Princess Peach, only to be thwarted time and again by the Mario brothers. The dynamic between the brash Bowser and the timid Luigi brings a nuanced exploration of characters that are, in many ways, polar opposites. This compelling dynamic, chock-full of possibilities, has fans across the globe captivated. In the world of Bowuigi, Luigi steps up, breaking free from his role as second fiddle. We see him facing Bowser head-on, not as an adversary, but as an equal. Bowser, too, gets a character twist, revealing layers we've never seen in the mainstream games. There’s something thrillingly transgressive about this, breaking free from the established narratives and breathing new life into these iconic characters. Bowuigi thrives and evolves through the creativity of its fandom. Tumblr has been a major player in this evolution, providing a platform for fans to share their interpretations of this unlikely duo. It's a place where Bowuigi can really shine - from inspired fan art that captures the duo’s unique chemistry, to fanfictions that dive into their developing relationship, and analytical posts that dissect their potential dynamic. Through Bowuigi, fans aren't just 'shipping' two characters; they're daring to reinterpret and reinvent. The dynamic between Bowser and Luigi encourages us to look at these characters through a different lens and explore scenarios beyond the original narrative. It's a testament to the transformative power of fandom and the freedom it offers to reimagine well-loved characters in entirely new contexts. Regardless of whether Bowuigi finds a place in official Super Mario lore, this ship has already made waves in the franchise's fandom. - James Potter, Regulus Black and Jegulus: An Unexpected Pairing in the Harry Potter Universe
Dive into the world of Harry Potter, and you'll find a universe filled with magic, mystery, and an abundance of complex relationships that have spun a web of intrigue for fans. And Yaoi. Lots and lots and lots of Yaoi. Among these multifaceted interactions, one fan-driven ship stands out for its spellbinding blend of 'what ifs' and delicious angst: the pairing of James Potter and Regulus Black, affectionately known to fans as 'Jegulus'. Just think about it for a second. James, the popular, charismatic, and brash Gryffindor Quidditch star and Regulus, the quiet, refined, and dutiful son of the pure-blood obsessed Black family. They're a pairing that exists in stark contrast to one another, a proverbial night and day. This inherent conflict and tension are what fuels the intrigue and excitement around Jegulus. It's like the classic Shakespearean story of star-crossed lovers but with a Hogwarts twist. Their dynamic is a perfect playground for angst. A world where love and duty clash, where house loyalties are tested, and the lines between right and wrong blur. Just imagine their stolen glances in the corridors of Hogwarts, their secret rendezvous under the cloak of night, and their hidden feelings masked by the harsh realities of their time. It's a tale of forbidden love, marked by longing, denial, and unspoken words that echo through the halls of Hogwarts. (I used to write a lot of Harry Potter fics so hi). The potential of Jegulus is a treasure trove for the fans. As we delve into this dynamic, we can explore themes of societal expectations, the weight of family legacy, and the struggle for acceptance. The emotional depth that this pairing brings to the Harry Potter universe adds a whole new layer of complexity to the narrative, offering fans a chance to explore these characters in a way that the original series never did. The beauty of Jegulus lies in the possibility of what could have been. It's about unspoken love, loyalty divided, and choices that could have altered the course of wizarding history. It's about finding common ground in the most unlikely of places, about discovering love amidst the chaos, and about the tragedy of a love that could never be. This is what makes Jegulus such a compelling ship. It's the possibility, the conflict, and the heart-wrenching angst that make this pairing a fascinating exploration of character dynamics. It's a testament to the transformative power of fandom, showcasing how fans can breathe new life into characters, reinvent narratives, and explore uncharted territories of the Harry Potter universe. Whether you're a diehard Jegulus shipper or just a casual observer, there's no denying the irresistible allure of this pairing. Their dynamic gives us a fresh perspective on the characters we thought we knew, shining a new light on the complexities of their personalities and the world they live in. While James Potter and Regulus Black's paths may have never explicitly crossed in the original series, in the hearts of fans and through the power of imagination, their story lives on - filled with tension, longing, and a deliciously poignant dose of angst. It's a bittersweet dance of 'what could have been' and 'what if,' forever immortalized in the realm of fanfiction and the hearts of Jegulus shippers everywhere.
- Forget Hollywood: Here's Why Thai and Japanese BL Are Winning the LGBTQ+ Representation Game!
From cinema to television and everything in between, American media has seen a remarkable growth in the representation of LGBTQ+ characters over the past few years. There's no denying the milestone importance of shows like "Glee," and "Steven Universe," or films like "Call Me By Your Name" and "Love, Simon." These projects have boldly brought gay narratives into mainstream media, opening up conversations and challenging stereotypes. But there's a catch. Why is there always a catch? We're at a point where we need to ask ourselves, are we doing justice to the vast diversity within the LGBTQ+ community? There's a noticeable trend in American media where gay narratives, especially involving young adults, and gay characters appear pigeonholed into a limited set of storylines and character arcs. The LGBTQ+ Hipster, the Road-Trip, and the Forest Setting (Tumblr...Tumblr...oh Tumblr) One prominent trope is the portrayal of every gay character as a hipster. What the heck happened to even early gay characters in slice-of-life settings or ABC family random cameos? Even sitcoms and shows like "The Golden GIrls" did it better than what we see today. While it's refreshing to see LGBTQ+ characters breaking free from the clichés of tragedy and persecution, confining them to the hipster aesthetic can be equally reductive. Likewise, narratives revolving around road trips or forest settings have become all too common. While these narratives can be symbolic and poignant, it's a motif that risks becoming worn out due to overuse. The Coming Out Drama and the 2014 Tumblr YA Novel Effect Then there's the ubiquitous coming out story. From "Love, Simon" to "Alex Strangelove," many American shows and movies portray young adults coming out, often laden with drama and conflict. While these narratives are crucial in showcasing the struggle and courage involved in accepting one's sexuality, they also tend to generalize the LGBTQ+ experience. Not every person's journey involves significant drama, and not every LGBTQ+ individual views their sexuality as the primary facet of their identity. Closely related to the coming-out trope is what I like to call the "2014 Tumblr YA Novel Effect." The term refers to the stylized portrayal of gay characters often seen in young adult novels popular on Tumblr around 2014. Think characters like Nico di Angelo from Rick Riordan's "Percy Jackson" series or Simon Spier from "Love, Simon," both of whom encapsulate the image of the misunderstood, emotionally fraught young gay man. It's important to clarify that these tropes, in and of themselves, are not harmful. They've given voice to many within the LGBTQ+ community. The issue arises when these become the dominant narratives, perpetuating a narrow view of what it means to be gay. The reality is that the LGBTQ+ community is not a monolith; it encompasses a wide array of experiences, personalities, and narratives. American media compared to BL in Japan, Korea and more global BL, needs to broaden its portrayal of gay characters. The focus should be on creating well-rounded, relatable characters, whose sexual orientation is part of their identity, not their sole defining trait. There needs to be narratives that show the beautiful simplicity of gay relationships, the triumphs and struggles that have nothing to do with their sexuality, and the diverse ways in which people experience and express their sexual orientation. Imagine a gay character who's not trendy, not a hipster, but maybe a sci-fi nerd, a diehard sports fan, or an introverted bookworm. Or a storyline set not in a city's bustling streets or amidst nature, but perhaps in the heartland of rural America or even the bustling chaos of a Wall Street office (like even some 90s Yaoi achieved better than America's hot take on the subject). Instead of another coming-out drama, why not depict a middle-aged person finding love after a lifetime of believing they never would? Or a gay couple facing the everyday challenges and joys of raising a family? The Last of Us on HBO Max achieved it and broke the internet. It's needed and it's loved. The good news is, we are beginning to see changes in this direction. Netflix's "Special" breaks away from cliches by telling the story of a gay man with cerebral palsy, offering a perspective rarely seen in media. Similarly, the critically acclaimed "Schitt's Creek" presents a refreshing portrayal of a pansexual character, David Rose, whose sexual orientation is treated as a non-issue throughout the series. It's a simple, yet powerful testament to the normalization of LGBTQ+ identities. But America needs to learn from other countries on how to handle non-dramatic content when focused on BL. Have the drama, but don't make it so Hollywood. At the end of the day, being gay is not about fitting into a particular mold, but about being authentic to who you are.
- Buddie vs. Tarlos in '9-1-1' Universe
Hey folks, it's Emily here, back with another dispatch from the frontlines of fandom. Today, we're diving into the heart of '9-1-1' and '9-1-1: Lone Star' — two shows that have captured our collective hearts for their unique blend of high-stakes emergency drama and intricate personal stories. More specifically, we're talking about two central relationships: Evan "Buck" Buckley and Eddie Diaz (Buddie) from '9-1-1', and Carlos Reyes and T.K. Strand (Tarlos) from '9-1-1: Lone Star'. Let's set the scene: Buck and Eddie, our beloved "Buddie," two firefighters working at the LAFD, who've become an inseparable pair. We've seen their friendship develop into a deep bond that's almost impossible to ignore. Their shared experiences, mutual respect, and emotional intimacy all hint at the potential for something more. Then, we have Tarlos, the actual, on-screen queer couple from '9-1-1: Lone Star,' whose relationship has not just been accepted but also celebrated by viewers and creators alike. So why is it that one couple is given free rein to express their love, while the other is mired in a morass of will-they-won't-they tension? To answer that question, let's look at the two relationships side by side. Tarlos is a breath of fresh air in the landscape of LGBTQ+ representation on TV. Their relationship is treated just like any other, devoid of the oversexualization or queer tragedy tropes often seen in media portrayals of queer relationships. It's been beautiful to see Carlos and T.K.'s relationship flourish, their affection for each other evident in every scene they share. From their initial flirtation, all the way through the trials and tribulations of their relationship, Tarlos represents a positive and normalized depiction of a gay couple, showing that love knows no bounds. So, why can't we have the same with Buddie? Look, we're not newbies here. We've been around the fandom block a few times and we've seen the drill: the longing glances, the emotional confessions, the profound bond that goes beyond friendship. It's clear that there's something special between Buck and Eddie. And it's not just us reading between the lines here. The cast and creators have hinted at it too, and yet, we're stuck in a cycle of subtext with no tangible progress. But if Tarlos can work in the '9-1-1' universe, why can't Buddie? If '9-1-1: Lone Star' can openly portray a gay relationship, then its parent show '9-1-1' can surely do the same. This isn't just about shipping Buddie for the sake of it. It's about recognizing the power of on-screen representation, the importance of seeing relationships that reflect the diverse experiences of the audience. It's about normalizing queer relationships in mainstream media, about proving that a queer love story can exist within a drama-centric show without detracting from its core plot. In the end, we don't just want Buddie to succeed because we're fans of the couple. We want Buddie to succeed because we understand the importance of meaningful representation. We want it because a relationship like Buddie's, built on a deep bond of friendship, trust, and mutual respect, deserves to be explored to its fullest potential. The fact that '9-1-1: Lone Star' can successfully depict a queer relationship like Tarlos proves that it's not only possible within this universe, but it's also embraced and celebrated by viewers. The opportunity to showcase an authentic representation of love is there for the taking, and honestly, '9-1-1', it's time to step up. Let's think about some of the scenes that we've already been gifted in the Buddie narrative. The emotional hospital scene where Eddie trusts no one but Buck to look after Christopher? The way Eddie confessed his will naming Buck as Christopher's legal guardian, highlighting the implicit trust and love Eddie holds for Buck? The pure angst when Eddie was shot, and Buck's visceral reaction to the possibility of losing him? These are the kinds of emotionally charged moments that '9-1-1: Lone Star' has used to successfully build the relationship between Carlos and T.K. We've seen how well the audience has responded to the respectful, authentic portrayal of Tarlos in '9-1-1: Lone Star'. Their storyline is handled with the same commitment and depth as any straight couple on the show. And this isn't just good for representation - it makes for damn good television too. The chemistry, the slow-burn romance, the mutual respect - it's the kind of love story that viewers are eager to see, and it's proving to be a real strength of the show. The same could be true for Buddie. There's a depth to their relationship, a complexity to their bond that would make their romantic evolution not just believable, but compelling. The potential for good storytelling is there, ripe for the picking. All that's needed is the will to move forward. Here's hoping that the future holds more promise for Buddie. And hey, who knows? Maybe we'll get to see our beloved Buddie sharing a tender moment of love and acceptance just like Tarlos. A fandom can dream, right? Until then, we'll be here, rooting for love in all its forms, and celebrating the small steps towards more inclusive storytelling. We've seen what '9-1-1: Lone Star' can do. Now, it's your turn, '9-1-1'. We're ready when you are.

The first version of Boys Love Brasil was created in December 2015, by me, Bobby, in partnership with a friend. However, due to personal problems and disagreements on how to handle the work and deliver the news, my friend gave up, and the project was put on hold. At that time, it was not yet called Boys Love Brasil. But I didn't give up, and in March 2016, I met Jonh Almeida through Twitter and presented the project of creating Boys Love Brasil and the website I had already made. He was fascinated and we decided to find one more person to solidify the definitive creation of BLB. It was during this same period that we met Marina Vaz, who agreed to join the venture. So, on April 27, 2016, we officially launched Boys Love Brasil on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, as well as the website for reviews and news about Boys Love, Girls Love (which wasn't even talked about at the time), K-pop, and the LGBTQIAP+ community. Founder of Boys Love Brasil Speaking a little about the evolution of Boys Love Brasil, in 2016 we decided to recruit people externally who enjoyed writing, watching, and researching about Boys Love, as well as all the other subjects we covered on our website. This way, we started growing and incorporating several other projects. In 2017, we held the first BLAW - BL Awards - with open voting to the public, and we received over 35,000 votes. In 2018/2019, we carried out the Voices That Need to Be Heard Project, where we interviewed LGBTQIAP+ individuals to share their stories. The interviews were conducted in audio, video, and text formats. In 2020, we created our BL merchandise store on Shopee and on our own website. We also established BLB Publisher, a publishing house focused on BL and LGBTQIAP+ works. We have already officially published in Brasil: Manner Of Death, The Red Thread, My Ride I Love You, Seven Days Before Valentine, Laços de Sangue, Ai No Chikara, and much more is coming. Throughout this period, around 150 people have worked in various roles and sectors within BLB. Today, we have an active board of 10 members who coordinate everything voluntarily. Can you describe the selection process for the Boys' Love titles that you feature on your platform? To the extent possible, given our personnel limitations, we strive to cover all BL series. Of course, often we prioritize new BLs from smaller producers and from other countries such as the Philippines, Cambodia, and more recently, India. Every day, our team of researchers and influencers is conducting research on BL series from all Asian countries, as well as LGBTQIAP+ productions from all countries. What differentiates Boys Love Brasil from other platforms that focus on Yaoi or Boys' Love content? Firstly, it is necessary to understand that all platforms that discuss BL/GL and Yaoi have their own specificities. With that being said, I believe one of the great differentiators of BLB is that from the beginning, we introduced ourselves to those who follow us. In other words, people know who is behind it. For example, I have several people who follow Boys Love Brasil and also follow me on my social media, and they are my friends. This often allows for more open feedback, whether positive or negative. Another differentiator is that we train everyone who joins us to perform various roles within BLB. We even have classrooms on Google Class, and this training often positively reflects the way we share things. Additionally, since the first day back in 2016, we understood the importance of having a unique visual identity and treating BL news with professionalism and responsibility. Can you share some insights into your user base? What do they most appreciate about Boys Love Brasil? It is worth creating a timeline of the BL audience in Brasil, as, like the rest of the country, the audience has gone through significant social maturation and changes. In the beginning, our audience was predominantly female, and this persisted until around 2019/2020. However, in the past three years, this has been changing, as there is a significant number of male individuals who previously did not consume Boys Love and are now starting to consume it. The way people perceive these productions has also changed. Years ago, in 2014/2015/2016/2017, we had almost no discussions about the erasure of the LGBTQIAP+ community, particularly gay men, within BL productions. However, today, we have several discussions on this topic. For example, openly gay actors losing roles because producers, directors, and part of the audience believe that an openly gay man cannot portray a gay character. Certainly, here in Brasil and the Western world in general, these discussions are much more advanced than in some countries that actually produce Boys Love content, and in my view, that is a good thing. How do you address the varying tastes within the Yaoi fandom? Do you target specific niches or aim for broad appeal? We always strive for the broadest range of content, but when it comes to articles for our portal, we also take into account the preferred niches of our columnists. What role does feedback from your users play in shaping your platform and content? It is of utmost importance to understand that we, behind the Boys Love Brasil portal, are humans and thus subject to errors and criticism. With this in mind, I always guide the entire team that we are not holders of absolute truth, especially because we discuss a culture that was not created by us and is not ingrained in the everyday life of Brasilians. Therefore, I always ask my administrators to carefully analyze the feedback from our users. You see, we know that we cannot please everyone, and that is part of the game. So, whenever we receive a higher-than-average amount of negative feedback regarding a certain matter, we evaluate and examine where we went wrong, and we try to correct the mistake and apologize. This is the process of evolution for BLB: learning from our mistakes. Boys Love Brasil seems to have a strong community focus. How do you cultivate and maintain this sense of community? This aligns with what I mentioned in one of the previous responses: People know who is behind BLB, they are aware of the difficulties we face. We have always been transparent, and this has created and continues to maintain the sense of community within BLB. How do you manage the balance between featuring popular titles and promoting lesser-known or new authors? Well, this balance is achieved on a daily basis, but overall there is no recipe. However, we have a predisposition to talk about new productions. What are some initiatives or features you've implemented based on user feedback? The process of improving our website to make it lighter, as well as the option for users to vote on our reviews and share their opinions. Could you tell us more about your team's process in curating and delivering the best Boys' Love content? Most things are extensively researched on official websites and pages regarding those subjects. When it is confirmed information, we point it out, as well as when it is a rumor. Another important aspect that we always prioritize in our team's training is to always include sources and give proper credit. What has been your top 5 favorite Boys Love series to review? Well, it's no secret that I have some favorite series, and some of them might not please everyone. My top 5 favorites are: • 5th: My Day The Series • 4th: History1 - My Obsessed (I watch this one with a guilty conscience) • 3rd: Game Boys • 2nd: History2 - Right or Wrong • 1st: Until We Meet Again What role does Boys Love Brasil play in promoting Boys Love? For the Brasilian audience, I believe we are a platform they like or have come to like. For the international audience, we haven't quite reached that point yet, but we are getting there. Are there any exciting plans or features for Boys Love Brasil that you can share with us? Of course, we have big plans: We are working on the internationalization of Boys Love Brasil, seeking international partnerships. Currently, we have a representative from the board in New York City, a columnist living in Thailand, and we are pursuing partnerships with other countries for joint content publication and international recording and distribution of the Papo BL podcast. In addition, we are exploring possibilities of organizing BL tours and gatherings around the world with actors and actresses. How has Boys Love Brasil been received by the community since its launch? Any memorable feedback or interactions you'd like to share? Of course, as I mentioned, we can't please everyone, and understanding that is part of the process. We have had several memorable interactions, especially one that I always remember with a smile on my face because, despite the seriousness, I find it funny. Once, a fanbase of an actor, whom I won't mention, took down our account because we made a joke about a series. How do you keep up with the latest trends and developments in the Boys' Love genre to keep your content fresh and engaging? We keep ourselves updated through research on official websites and also through partnerships we have with some production companies. In your opinion, what's the key to creating a successful platform like Boys Love Brasil? Dedication is the key word, along with resilience and perseverance. And, of course, love for what we do. Could you share a particularly proud moment or milestone for Boys Love Brasil? When we opened the publishing house and signed contracts with famous authors like Sammon and Patrick... As a platform, how do you handle the balance between user privacy and creating a social and interactive environment? Well, we follow the guidelines of the General Data Protection International Laws (GDPIL). Looking back, what is one thing you would have done differently in your journey with Boys Love Brasil? I don't think so. Looking into the future, where do you see Boys Love Brasil in the next five years? Well, I see BLB as a consolidated company known by many people and in many places.
