  • NaruSasu - Naruto Uzumaki & Sasuke Uchiha | A Shaping Force in Pop Culture Fandom

Okay, so here's the deal. If you've ever taken a deep dive into the world of anime, you'd know that there's one ship that has been across time and seas, permeating fandom culture at its core: Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha from the globally revered series Naruto. And trust me when I say, the influence of this legendary duo, affectionately dubbed 'SasuNaru' (or 'NaruSasu,' depending on your preference), has been so powerful, it's left an indelible mark on pop culture, inspiring countless characters and relationships across media platforms. Before we start unpacking this iconic bromance-slash-romance, let's do a quick recap for the uninitiated. Naruto Uzumaki, our plucky, blond-haired protagonist, and Sasuke Uchiha, the brooding, raven-haired anti-hero, form the heart of Masashi Kishimoto's celebrated manga and anime series, Naruto. Their relationship begins as a rivalry, evolves into friendship, and over time, grows into a profound bond that redefines the narrative of the series. Right off the bat, Naruto and Sasuke's dynamic is a captivating study in contrasts. Naruto, the hyperactive, boisterous orphan, carries a heart brimming with optimism, constantly striving to gain the recognition and love he was deprived of. Sasuke, the last surviving member of the Uchiha clan, is driven by revenge and isolation, his heart clouded by the darkness of his past. Naruto's innate ability to love unconditionally clashes beautifully with Sasuke's reserved, seemingly cold exterior. These contrasting personalities make for a rich, intense dynamic that is as compelling as it is complex. Naruto's relentless drive to bring Sasuke back to the village, despite his numerous transgressions, and Sasuke's subtle yet poignant moments of concern for Naruto, create a beautiful dance of push and pull. Their bond defies the conventional confines of friendship and rivalry, hinting at a deeper, more profound connection that blurs the lines between platonic and romantic. But the influence of SasuNaru extends beyond the confines of their universe. Their relationship has had a ripple effect, inspiring a myriad of characters and relationships across various fandoms. Whether it's the complex dynamic between rivals-turned-friends Keith and Lance in Voltron: Legendary Defender, or the tumultuous relationship between Bakugo and Midoriya in My Hero Academia, traces of Naruto and Sasuke's bond can be found. For instance, consider the dynamic between Keith and Lance in Voltron: Legendary Defender. Their initial rivalry, laced with a generous dose of mutual animosity, evolves over time into a deep, understanding friendship. This transformation echoes the journey of Naruto and Sasuke, showcasing how rivals can grow into invaluable allies. Their relationship, like SasuNaru, thrives on the balance of contrasting personalities and the mutual respect that underlines their bond. On the other hand, My Hero Academia's Bakugo and Midoriya share a parallel that’s uncannily similar to SasuNaru's dynamic. Midoriya's unwavering resolve to save Bakugo, despite their fraught relationship, and Bakugo's grudging respect for Midoriya are reminiscent of Naruto's determination to save Sasuke and Sasuke's slow, begrudging acceptance of Naruto's feelings. The influence of SasuNaru is also evident in the world of fanfiction. On platforms like AO3 (Archive of Our Own) and Tumblr, their relationship has spurred countless fanfics, fan arts, and discussions, ranging from light-hearted fluff to intense, emotional sagas. The fervor surrounding SasuNaru has permeated the fandom landscape, opening avenues for fans to explore their relationship in new and creative ways. This widespread enthusiasm has not only sustained the SasuNaru fandom but has also inspired other fandoms, fueling the creation of similar character dynamics and relationships. The power of SasuNaru lies not just in their intense, multi-layered relationship, but also in what they represent – a study in contrasts, an exploration of love in its various forms, and the power of unyielding determination. The depiction of their bond, filled with hurdles and reconciliations, resonates with audiences because it mirrors the trials and tribulations of real relationships. Their dynamic is a testament to the power of bonds that transcend conventional definitions, pushing the boundaries of friendship, rivalry, and love. Ultimately, Naruto and Sasuke's relationship is a potent reminder of how compelling character dynamics can shape narratives, influence other characters, and leave a lasting impact on pop culture. Whether it's the intensity of their rivalry, the depth of their bond, or the unyielding resolve they exhibit, SasuNaru is a testament to the power of well-developed character relationships. As an ex-fanfic writer and a forever fan, I can attest to the inspiration derived from their dynamic. Their influence transcends beyond the realm of Naruto, seeping into various fandoms, and inspiring characters and narratives along the way. So, here's to Naruto and Sasuke, for etching their mark in the annals of fandom history, and continuing to inspire us with their timeless bond.

  • An Openly Gay Kamen Rider MC? A Gay Fan's Perspective on Untapped Potential

As an avid Kamen Rider enthusiast and an unapologetic shipper, the rollercoaster ride of emotions that this franchise offers me is second to none. Yes, the high-octane battles and gripping narratives are awesome, but it's the undercurrents of deep male camaraderie that keep me coming back for more. If you know me from my profile here on Boys Love Universe I used to be a fanfic writer back in early Tumblr and AO3 days. I used to be a pretty big name but left that behind once the queerbaiting situation got worse and worse with specific ships. Kamen Rider was more niche back then for fanfic writers so instead of fics allow me to showcase pairings instead on Boys Love Universe. Let's kick off with "Kamen Rider Drive," starring Shinnosuke Tomari and Go Shijima. The bromance here, folks, is palpable. It's like watching a love story that’s not quite labeled but oh, so present. The evolution of Go from a solitary wolf to Shinnosuke's ride-or-die buddy is a transformation that's as satisfying as the series' plot itself. Their relationship, peppered with growth, complexities, and a dash of chemistry, screams untapped BL potential. Next up is "Kamen Rider Ex-Aid," and the electric duo of Emu Hojo and Hiiro Kagami. They’re the yin to each other's yang – Emu's genuine warmth melting Hiiro's icy exterior. Every shared glance, every moment of vulnerability between them, stirs up that "will-they-won't-they" suspense. It's a slow-burn romance just begging to be kindled! And let's not forget Eiji Hino and Ankh from "Kamen Rider OOO". The tension between these two is charged enough to fuel a power grid. Their unlikely partnership, coupled with Ankh's volatile nature and Eiji's steadfast resolution to help, creates a mesmerizing dynamic that's just ripe for exploration. Imagine, if you will, a Kamen Rider series with an openly gay protagonist. Now, this isn't just about representation (crucial as it is), but about expanding the narrative horizons of the franchise. It's about painting a more inclusive picture of love and friendship that speaks to a wider audience. Picture this: a Kamen Rider protagonist who's proudly gay, fighting the baddies with panache, and navigating the nuances of a heartfelt romantic relationship. Intriguing, right? It's a narrative twist that could break new ground for the genre. The Kamen Rider series has shown us that it can gracefully tackle complex narratives. Throwing LGBTQ+ themes into the mix seems like the next logical step, a game-changer that could unlock a treasure trove of storytelling possibilities. Sure, I'll stay hooked to Kamen Rider, always ready for the next adrenaline rush. But there will be moments when I yearn for that uncharted territory of BL potential. I'll find myself wishing for a narrative that delves deeper into the intricate dynamics of male friendships. Here's to the hope that one day, these ties will be celebrated in all their glorious colors. And here's to the day when love, in all its forms, will be accepted and applauded as freely as our beloved Kamen Riders live their lives!

  • NPOBL (Nunca Pause O BL) Interview - A Portal for BL Content

Welcome folks, to another exciting and insightful discussion! Today, we're diving into the vibrant world of Asian LGBTQIA+ productions with a very special guest Gabbie from NPOBL. Hailing from the bustling portal of NPOMV, our interviewee has been championing the cause of diversity, inclusivity, and representation through engaging BL content. Fasten your seatbelts and get ready to embark on this riveting journey that will take us behind the screens of one of Brazil's most active online communities. Get to know NPOBL... Hi, my name is Gabbie! I am NPOBL manager and will be answering your questions today. I am actually very happy you've grown interested in our work. Thank you so much. Presenting this project, NPOBL (Nunca Pause o BL, in Portuguese), means literally "Never Stop the BL" and it is a project that we created to welcome people who are interested in BL, into our online community, and raise awareness over the queer issues and our activism as queer people. NPOBL is the queer, colorful, cheerful leg of our main portal, NPOMV (Nunca Pause o MV - Never Stop the MV) that focuses on creating content over East Asian music as well as interactions, starting from K-pop and including other musical industries. NPOBL emerged from a joke from a follower, back in June 2022. I've been working with NPOMV since 2019 and, I always tried to include BL in our page in a very sporadic manner. One day, a follower actually left a comment at a NPOMV post saying 'I really like your BL content, you should create a BL page" and this is how we decided to open the portal, in July 2022. We are very glad to represent Brazil in both Asia music and Asia BL media fields. What inspired the creation of your Asian LGBTQIA+ focused news and interaction portal? Everybody in the team produces over a different reason. For me, if I can say, I started it out of escapism, and I assumed the page management also because I felt comfortable producing such content. There aren't enough spaces for queer girls to occupy and, I feel so relieved to have the page, express myself and talk to other people. This is the most precious thing to me. Can you share with us a memorable story from the early days of your portal? Every single memory is always very cherished for our team. Every time a post blows and breaks through our expectations, every time we get invited to an event (...) Recently, we had the pleasure to attend OnlyOneOf's concert as npobl, and it was such a magical moment because I am a huge fan of their work and activism. It was the first time we attended a concert representing LGBTQIA+ empowerment. How does your platform aim to contribute to the representation and visibility of Asian LGBTQIA+ productions? I think, in Brazil, the BL industry has a lot of fans and for me it is very crucial to have this huge fanbase so we can discuss issues surrounding queer communities, political issues, equality, prejudice, etc. My main goal is to create a safe space for everyone to communicate. As for the industry itself, I think is very relevant to have a portal even if its for the fans and we are very modest about it, but we are talking about agencies and producing teams that survive out of fans support and social media visibility, so I always get overwhelmed wherever a fan or even an artist recognize us online and thanks us for the spread of their work. How do you select the content and news to feature on your portal? Usually, we try to vary between news and interactions for the fans, and we always try to include as many artists and productions as possible. Sometimes we fail to include everyone, since it is a pretty big industry, but we are trying to get better at this. What are some of the challenges you've faced in managing an interaction portal centered around Asian LGBTQIA+ productions? We usually lack the participation of people. Not from the public, but internally in the page. It's hard to manage the portal issues within the 'real life struggles' and sometimes we run out of people. But we try to manage better as possible and recruit new people once in a while. Nowadays, this is the main challenge. About producing over LGBTQIA+ media, the biggest challenge is making sure we are making people grow closer to us as a safe space, instead of pushing them away. This is why we are always trying to include a large amount of the community despite the lack of other representation than male to male couples in Asia media. Could you talk about some significant moments or achievements that have occurred since the portal was launched? Something that we always do with the followers is to organize a form and then they vote for their favorite … something. And then we make a big party to announce the "winners" these moments of direct interaction are the most memorable to me. How do you handle the cultural nuances and diverse representation within the Asian LGBTQIA+ community? This is a very important question because we always try to stay respectful and loyal to our purposes while producing over something that doesn't really belong to our culture, even though queer culture is quite global nowadays. The cultural differences can be confusing sometimes, because not every country will face pride, gender and sexuality issues the same way, and we understand that so we try to use a kind of detailed approach, and try to see the hindrances each culture faces, and what are the struggle of that particular community, socially speaking. What role does audience interaction play in shaping the direction of your platform? The public is always very listened to in our page, not only on the BL leg, but also in the main page (NPOMV), we always try to see the people and let them participate. BL fans are actually very charming and funny. Can you share some insights about the demographics and interests of your user base? As for Brazil, I see the public as more of a consumer of the mature series, or even plotlines that fly high from the radar and actually innovate. I can also sense that Thai BL is more consumed, and the Thai actors' fanbases are always larger. Probably there is a reason for that too. How does your platform maintain a balance between promoting discussions and ensuring respectful interactions within the community? We are actually currently working on this balance. We really wanted people to talk to us more and understand us as their close friends, we really want them to demand things from us. This is why I always try to write down my thoughts over something and post it right away. Is kind of a venting process but people usually like it. During the day, we promote the updates and usually at night we focus on interaction. In what ways does your portal collaborate with Asian LGBTQIA+ production companies or content creators? I think, not only us, but the other big portals in Brazil, play a big part in spreading information for people that consume BL and buy from the industry. We are very glad to be part of the supporting team of these artists, and so glad to be part of the growing of an industry that might take the world soon. Can you share some success stories that resulted from interactions or discussions on your platform? Recently, we are raising aware over a lot of social issues not only surrounding queer communities, but also most minorities in general. Even though we are actually a baby fanbase with almost 1 year activity, we already promoted debate ahead of race, gender, politics, bullying, harassment and other topics using BL content as the fuse. What are some upcoming features or plans for your platform that your users can look forward to? For the portal, we are really trying to correct some things before taking a step forward. There are a lot of things our team wants to do and, hopefully in the future we can grow more mature, more active and organized as a portal. For the next few months, we are producing a lot of special content and we have a lot of ideas, I guess we can put it to work with time. How do you see the landscape of Asian LGBTQIA+ productions evolving and how does your platform fit into this picture? I think Brazil is a Market that would embrace BL really well, in a performative way. We are hearing about companies bringing their artists here and we think this is a lovely idea. We really want to have concerts, merchs and everything too. There are a lot of things that stop this from happening now, but I trust that in the future it will be possible, and we will gladly embrace it too and will be our pleasure to support these events as NPOMV and NPOBL. Could you discuss how your portal addresses the representation of different identities within the LGBTQIA+ community? My objective was to make NPOBL to be a very political portal and talk over a lot of social issues in general, because I've always seen this work in a very active, philosophical way. So, even if our main point is BL, we always try to elucidate people over other groups in the LGBTQIA+ community, embracing every single particular identity and making sure people understand that the lack of trans/sapphic/asexual/ characters is also problematic, and raising awareness over the process of building good and respectful representation for bi and pan people as well. Even if we don't usually see these people in the series, it's important that our public that is very diverse, can see themselves in the content we create and in the environment we built out of a trustworthy manner. How does your platform handle feedback or suggestions from its user base? If it's not something really mean we love to listen to the feedbacks. It's actually important for us to calculate what people like or dislike. As I said, we are trying to create a safe space for everyone so, I hope they feel free to always send feedback. What are some trends you've noticed in Asian LGBTQIA+ productions that you believe will shape the future of this genre? There are a lot of classics that are always loved by people like enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, etc. Nowadays people really like office romance, and musicals. But honestly, I think public interaction is the new trend. People get easily attached to artists that actually enjoy their works and update fans on social media. Being edgy and charismatic might be the new trend. As an online interaction portal, how do you manage to keep your community engaged and active? This is very challenging. Every time we feel like people are letting us slide a little, we try to change something about our content. We are not professionals of producing SNS content but, we know what can call attention from fans since we are also fans. What is your vision for your portal in the next few years and how do you plan to achieve it? We really wanted to grow on social media. We don't really have a goal in numbers, but our plan is to make NPOMV and NPOBL become equal. Let's see what happens in the future, right? As we conclude this interview, what message would you like to share with the followers of your portal and fans of Asian LGBTQIA+ productions? Thank you for talking to us and enjoying our reflective huge posts over life, acceptance and real-life struggles. It is most definitely amazing that we can interact with you and share our craziness and passion for BL and queer content. Please, look forward to our outgrowth and feel free to talk to us anytime. We really love producing for you guys. From the heartfelt sharing of their struggles to their unwavering commitment towards expanding representation, this has been an enlightening chat that reflects the spirit of the vibrant community of NPOBL. Remember, their door is always open for a hearty chat! Until next time, keep the conversation going, spread love and acceptance, and continue to support Boys Love media.

  • 'Red Ops: The First Infection' – Zombies and Yaoi Galore

Gather around folks, it's time for another one of Emily's brutally honest reviews, this time tackling the upcoming zombie apocalypse BL visual novel, "Red Ops: The First Infection" by Vincere Studio. Get your geek goggles on, because this is one title you wouldn't want to miss - or would you? Let's find out. First off just make sure you make this game a part of your Wishlist on Steam! First off, the premise of the game. We're talking covert ops, secret organizations, and a world teetering on the brink of a zombie apocalypse - the works. The setup seems right out of a blockbuster thriller, and that's not a bad thing at all. Given the developer's claim of an engaging storyline filled with hardships and world-ending events, it sounds like we're in for a wild ride. In a gaming world where every other title claims to be unique, it's refreshing to see something as honest as "zombies, love, and intimacy." Hats off to Vincere Studio for the transparency. The plot follows Zach and Chris, two agents hired by RED, a private organization, to carry out a covert ops mission. Things take a turn for the worse when they uncover the origins of a deadly man-made virus, one that turns humans into terrifying, man-eating monsters. On the one hand, we have a potential zombie apocalypse looming over humanity, and on the other, we have a BL romance that promises to be just as explosive. The game boasts over 6 hours of playtime, 25+ CGs, and two love interest routes leading to three different endings. Let's talk about the steamy parts. Red Ops claims to feature 9 NSFW scenes, and get this, even a polyamory scene. Well, isn't that something? They’re not shying away from diving deep into the intimate side of things, which could be either a hit or miss depending on your personal preferences. The promise of an original soundtrack is an interesting selling point as well. The impact of a well-composed OST on the overall gaming experience cannot be overstated, and it's nice to see that the developers seem to understand this. With the game still in development and a release date set for late 2024, it's too soon to say whether "Red Ops: The First Infection" will live up to its hype. But one thing's for sure, it's got the potential to offer a unique blend of thrill, romance, and gore. Digging into the meat and potatoes of the game, you've got an impressive assortment of features and content to look forward to. The promise of over six hours of gameplay sounds solid and should be enough time to fully explore the characters, relationships, and world that Vincere Studio is building. With 25+ CGs excluding variations, the visual content of "Red Ops: The First Infection" looks set to be a feast for the eyes. The prospect of two love interests or routes coupled with three different endings suggests a game that values player choice and offers replayability. Who doesn't love a good replay? More chances to explore different choices, see how the story can unfold differently, and get more bang for your buck. The nine erotic scenes (explicitly labeled NSFW) seem to indicate the developers aren't shying away from the steamier side of the genre. If you're into hardcore BL, this is a clear selling point. It's not every day you also see zombies and the world ending in a BL visual novel, and I'm curious to see how it will be handled. Is it going to be tastefully executed or just a gratuitous fan service? Time will tell. "Red Ops: The First Infection" is a game that appears to have all the potential of being a unique and engaging title in the BL visual novel landscape. With a premise that blends covert ops and zombie apocalypse with LGBTQ+ themes, it's safe to say it's not a run-of-the-mill BL game. It looks promising, as does the depth and complexity of its narrative and characters. Maxim's Character Sheet from '700Hash' It's clear that Vincere Studio is pouring a lot of effort and passion into creating this game, and it's got me curious and excited. Of course, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and the final verdict can only come once we get our hands on the actual game. So, fellow BL geeks, watch this space. "Red Ops: The First Infection" is one title you might want to keep your eyes on. You will also see some gameplays from the BLU founders on the BLU YouTube Channel so make sure you subscribe there before launch! Remember, don't take my word as gospel, but use it as a guide. Try the game for yourself when it comes out, see if it resonates with you. In the world of gaming the key is to keep exploring, keep questioning, and above all, have fun. Till the next review, this is Emily, signing off.

  • A Veteran Yaoi Gamer's Deep Dive into Y Press Games' Visual Novel Library

Hey there, folks! It's Nash, your friendly neighborhood Yaoi gaming connoisseur! Since the early 2000s, I've been collecting Yaoi games, wading through the worlds of countless visual novels. Not embarrassed to even say I've played almost all of them and most have helped me accept my sexuality over the years. And while there are many well known Yaoi visual novels like Camp Buddy, no studio has captured my heart quite like Y Press Games. With Y Press Games announcing Orc Covenant, I wanted to review a few of the other games to give you an insight into this studio! Y Press Games dedicates itself to making accurate gay games for gay men and BL fans, and is one of the only studios I know that has a Council of Wise Gays. So, I figured it's the perfect time to take a nostalgic stroll down memory lane, exploring some of their older titles. Are you ready? Y Press Games Review "To Trust an Incubus" - 4.5/5 This one left me breathless, guys! The intoxicating mix of fantasy and romance, all brought to life with Jouvru's striking art, was the perfect antidote to reality. From the moment Allen receives the strange letter, I found myself sucked into this magical mansion, alongside him. The unfolding of Allen's hidden past, the discovery of his magical capabilities, and the tantalizing 'bonding' scenes, all while grooving to a gorgeous soundtrack, kept me clicking away long into the night. "Hardcore Cruising" - 4.7/5 Now, who wouldn't want to board the HMS Size Queen? Hardcore Cruising dared to bring to life a sci-fi gay sex ship, blending cruise line duties with unabashedly enthusiastic sex work. The journey of Milo Barre, the protagonist, to prove his worth and possibly find love on board, felt so real and immersive. The game's disco soundtrack was the cherry on top. Hardcore Cruising was a delicious cocktail of love. "Mister Versatile" - 4.6/5 Suave, aloof Mister Versatile won my heart with his anti-super team sentiments. This game was a delightful spin on the superhero trope, offering a peek into the world of a lone wolf superhero navigating the challenges of friendship and vulnerability. What hooked me were the multiple story routes and the smexy animated sequences. "Morningdew Farms: A Gay Farming Game" - 4.3/5 Farming has never been so captivating and... intimate! In Morningdew Farms, I found myself planting, harvesting, raising chickens, and yes, romancing the charming locals. The journey of Cody from inheriting his grandfather's farm to finding his true love among the hot bachelors of Morningdew Village had me hooked. I can't forget the heart-thumping moments when I had to choose a partner from seven bachelors. "Sentimental Trickster" - 4.8/5 For those of us who prefer a darker, more challenging Yaoi narrative, Sentimental Trickster doesn't disappoint. This game deals with heavy real-world issues, so consider this a heads-up! Following the journey of Haru Amari, a man escaping his past, the choices I had to make kept me on my toes. And isn't that what life is about? The ethical dilemmas, the characters with their scars, they all contribute to a complex and intriguing storyline. Sentimental Trickster showed me the harder side of yaoi and left me pondering life, love, and the choices we make. "My Magical Demon Lover" - 4.4/5 Wizards, demons, and an unexpected journey of self-discovery. My Magical Demon Lover was a wild ride, blending comedy, fantasy, and spicy content. As Tristan, a wizard apprentice, I had to make a choice: which of the three hot demons would be my mentor... and possibly more? Despite the playful tone, this game was about coming of age, understanding one's desires, and making the right choices. The voice acting feature was a great touch, making this magical Yaoi adventure even more immersive! Y Press Games has created so many Yaoi games that not only accurately tell stories gay men want to hear (and play) but also appreciates their audience. They have also backed so many Yaoi Visual Novel Projects and has become one of the most respected studios out there dedicated to Yaoi content. And with Orc Covenant coming up, I'm sure we're in for a treat! So stick around, fellow Yaoi and visual novel enthusiasts. We'll be here supporting Y Press Games with everything they do.

  • "Camp Buddy" BL Visual Novel Review - The Gayest Camp in Yaoi

Alright, let's dive into Camp Buddy, a game that shines in the realm of BL/gay-themed visual novels. Developed by the skilled BLits team with Mikkoukun leading the charge, it first hit the scene on November 11, 2018. And it's been a hit ever since. The game's so good, in fact, they're cooking up an extension pack as we speak. This is one of the most explicit games I've ever played from the 2018 era of visual novels. But it's tasteful and rich in animations, art and overall just great for a more erotic Yaoi experience. So, who's the star of this show? Meet Keitaro Nagame. He's spending his summer at a scout-themed camp. Sounds fun, right? Well, it's even better than you might think. Keitaro's there with his childhood pal, but they're not alone. The camp is full of other interesting folks, each with their own stories and quirks. But things aren't all sunshine and rainbows. There's trouble brewing that might just shut the camp down. Keitaro's job? Keep the peace and make sure Camp Buddy stays the best place to be. Your role? You're right there with Keitaro, helping him make decisions, getting close to your chosen partner, and making some great memories along the way. Each route has a fair amount of juicy storylines, and you don't have to make it a cliche gameplay. So, why is Camp Buddy such a hit? It's simple. The game tells a great story, and it's filled with fascinating characters. And it's not just all laughs and good times. It gets into the nitty-gritty of the characters' feelings, which makes it easy to relate to. Plus the explicit scenes are some of the best in the visual novel industry when it comes to animations. Now, about the adult aspect. Camp Buddy doesn't shy away from exploring mature themes. It's got a lot to say about the ups, downs, and in-betweens of adult life. And it does so in a way that's honest and genuine. The setting? A summer camp, and it's a stroke of genius. It's a place where friendships are made, where adventures are had, and where you can be yourself. Plus, it adds a nice layer of nostalgia for those of us who remember our own camp days. Now, let's talk about the characters. First off, we've got Keitaro. He's your regular guy who's just trying to balance school and life. He's got a passion for photography, loves nature, and isn't too big on tech. His childhood buddy Hiro signed him up for camp, hoping to get some more time together. And so the story begins... Then there's Hiro, Keitaro's best friend. He loves cooking, thanks to his mom's teachings, and has a big heart, especially when it comes to his ill mother. Hiro's had feelings for Keitaro since they were kids, but he's always kept them hidden. He hopes the camp will bring them closer. Hunter Springfield is an interesting character. Homeschooled and always moving around, he's never really had a chance to make friends. But he's smart and loves his books and art. The camp is his chance to finally make some connections. Next up, Natsumi Hamasaki. A camp regular with a complex relationship with his older brother. Natsumi's new to the whole dating scene, but he's ready to explore and learn about himself. Last, but definitely not least, there's Yoichi. He's had a tough life, but he's not let it bring him down. He's got a soft spot for his dog Yuki, and isn't too fond of authority. But deep down, he's just a guy looking for a place to belong. In a nutshell, Camp Buddy is a vibrant blend of engaging storytelling, Yaoi explict content with great art and a sprinkle of nostalgia. It's a ride you don't want to miss.

  • 10 Times Stranger Things Nearly Made Byler Canon: An In-depth Examination of Mike and Will

Oh, "Stranger Things," the powerhouse Netflix series that hit the ground running in 2016. With its killer blend of 80s vibes, supernatural twists, and a crew of lovable misfits, it's no wonder we've all fallen head over heels for this show. But within this mix, an unexpected fandom has blossomed around two characters: Mike Wheeler and Will Byers. For those who aren't up-to-date with their fan lingo, this pairing goes by the cute moniker of 'Byler.' The Byler Starting Signs In the very first episode, Mike's devotion to finding the missing Will was palpable. It wasn't your run-of-the-mill worry for a friend. Oh no, this was a deeper, all-consuming dedication that saw Mike break rules and risk it all. It made you wonder if it was just concern for a friend or something more. The Heart-Wrenching Moment Then came the heart-wrenching eighth episode of the first season. When Will's "body" is found, Mike goes through an emotional roller coaster that feels like something more profound than just a friend's grief. The First Call for Comfort Fast-forward to season 2, episode 1, and we get a sneak peek into Will's psyche when he sees the Upside Down at the arcade. His first call for comfort? Mike. The Snowball Dance Then there's that moment at the Snowball dance in the ninth episode of the same season. While most remember it for Mike and Eleven's adorable moment, let's not forget Will dancing comfortably with a boy. A telltale sign, perhaps? The Veiled Hint? Season 3 offered more fodder for the Byler mill. In episode 3, after a tiff, Mike snaps at Will with, "It's not my fault you don't like girls!" What was that about, Mike? Just a remark in the heat of the moment, or was it a veiled hint about Will? The Affectionate Drawing And then there's Will's drawing in the first episode of the third season. A seemingly innocent sketch of him and Mike, but the attention to detail and the affection pouring out of it might suggest something more on Will's part. Pain of a Heart Left Behind In episode 4 of season 3, Will's pain and frustration become apparent when he destroys Castle Byers. It's more than just anger at being left behind. It seems more like the pain of a heart left behind. The Intense Goodbye And how could we ignore Mike's intense reaction when Will moves away in the final episode of season 3? The unsaid words, the lingering look - it was enough to get all Byler shippers' hearts pounding. The Unique Bond Not to mention the unique bond Mike and Will share due to their shared experiences with the Upside Down. The unspoken understanding, the meaningful glances - it all seems to suggest something more profound. The Duffer Brothers' Hint Finally, the Duffer Brothers have hinted at a central character being LGBTQ in future seasons, and all signs point to Will being a potential candidate. Remember, folks, while all of these instances might seem to scream 'Byler,' they could also just be signs of an incredibly deep and beautiful friendship. But whatever the reality, one thing's for sure - the bond between Mike and Will is the beating heart of "Stranger Things." It's their enduring friendship that's seen them through the darkest times and given us some of the most touching moments of the series. Byler fans, keep your detective hats on. • Sir Blackheart and Sir Goldenloin Make "Nimona" a Heartstring Tugger

Alright, buckle up "Nimona" fans! Today we are analyzing Sir Blackheart and Sir Goldenloin and how they (to me) are the center focus of the graphic novel and movie. Netflix has decided to take a swing at "Nimona," and by all means, they've hit it out of the park. But despite Nimona being a chaos energy character we have seen in series like Arcane with Jinx or tons of anime, the real heartstring tuggers in this story are Sir Blackheart and Sir Goldenloin. Their tangled past, complicated present, and hopeful future is the compelling subplot we all needed. If the movie just focused on these two it would still be a great hit. The Past: Training, Trials, and Tribulations in "Nimona" Blackheart and Goldenloin, before they adopted these awe-inspiring titles, were just Ballister and Ambrosius, two lads training at the Institution of Law Enforcement and Heroics. A classic setup: one meticulous and by the book, the other more loose with the rules but darn charming. Their dynamic was a medley of respect, rivalry, and a bond that hinted at more than just friendship. The big turning point? An accident during a jousting tournament, a moment that changed their trajectories forever. The Present: Foes or Friends? Fast-forward to the present, and we've got a unique situation on our hands. Blackheart, now branded the villain, and Goldenloin, the poster-boy for the Institution. Yet, their past connection haunts their every interaction. Each battle between them is laced with hints of regret, longing, and even a tad of affection. But it's not all angst and drama. There's humor and warmth, making their relationship feel more layered and real. The Future: What's in Store? This is where things get exciting. By the end of the movie, we're left with a glimmer of hope for these two. Their bond, though tested and strained over the years, still holds strong. And that final scene? If that's not a teaser for a possible future together, then I don't know what is. The potential for further exploration of their relationship is immense, and I, for one, am all for it. The Gay Dads AU: An Interesting Angle The 'Gay Dads AU' takes Blackheart and Goldenloin's relationship a step further, imagining them as fathers to Nimona. It's a creative spin that adds another layer of depth to their characters, making them even more appealing. Plus they are gay dads which just makes it cuter. Why Blackheart and Goldenloin Steal the Show Nimona, as the central character, is similar to Jinx from Arcane, chaos. I'm not a huge fan of chaos type characters since it's been an overdone trope since early anime days. Jinx from Arcane is a different story and has been since League lore, but let's get back to the point. For me it's Blackheart and Goldenloin who truly steal the show. Their relationship, marked by history, regret, affection, and hope, is the emotional anchor of the narrative. And it's not just about the representation, which is top-notch. It's about the realism, the relatability. They're two individuals grappling with their past, their identities, and their feelings for each other, all while navigating a world of good versus evil. The Potential for an Adult-Focused Spin-off Given the depth and complexity of Blackheart and Goldenloin's relationship, I firmly believe that a series or movie focusing solely on them would be a hit. It would allow for more in-depth exploration of their past, their evolving dynamic, and the hurdles they face in reconciling their roles as "villain" and "hero" with their feelings for each other. And, with an adult-focused spin, the narrative could delve into more mature themes, offering a richer and more nuanced depiction of their journey. Since we focus exclusively to just gay media and Male x Male relationships here on Boys Love Universe we all agree Netflix's "Nimona" is a fantastic watch for the beautifully portrayed relationship between Sir Blackheart and Sir Goldenloin. Their shared history, the depth of their bond, and the promise of a shared future make them one of the standout elements of the movie. Whether as fathers in the Gay Dads AU or as the potential leads in their own spin-off, these two characters have left a mark that won't be forgotten any time soon. Here's to more Blackheart and Goldenloin content in the future.

  • Gay Representation in Kids' Shows: "Arthur" Got it Right with Mr. Ratburn

If you're an old soul like me, you likely remember those simple days when, after school, you'd be parked in front of the television, engrossed in the adventures of Arthur Read, the main character of the beloved animated show, "Arthur." Aardvark or not, Arthur was as real as they come, navigating life in Elwood City with a kind of innocent charm that still warms the heart. Over its prodigious run, "Arthur" was celebrated for its deft touch on various subjects—friendship, empathy, patience, and more complicated issues like Alzheimer's and cancer. But there was a moment in the show's history that felt revolutionary, and it happened rather recently—in its 22nd season, no less. "Arthur" Got it Right with Mr. Ratburn This particular episode titled "Mr. Ratburn and the Special Someone," brought us into the heartwarming union of Arthur's beloved teacher, Mr. Ratburn, and his partner, Patrick. Now, what's so significant about this? For starters, this storyline presented one of the first instances of gay representation in children's television. And it wasn't just the existence of a gay character, it was how their story was told that marked a refreshing departure from the norm. What "Arthur" managed to do was portray Mr. Ratburn and Patrick as just another couple. Their relationship wasn't utilized as a tool for political grandstanding or forced empowerment narratives. It wasn't dramatic or shocking—it was just... there. It was real. It was normal. It was everyday life, just like the myriad other everyday life moments that "Arthur" has so masterfully captured over its 20+ years of runtime. It's this approach—this simple, honest representation—that sets "Arthur" apart from the rest. Too often, shows aimed at a younger audience shy away from or, worse, distort the portrayal of gay characters. In such cases, the narrative can take on a polarizing, "us-vs-them" tone, resulting in caricatures that do more harm than good. "Arthur" has proved that it's possible to do otherwise. Just as straight characters are straight, gay characters can just be gay—living their lives, navigating their struggles, and finding their joys. Creator Marc Brown didn't just break the internet with this move; he demonstrated a maturity in storytelling that other children's shows could stand to learn from. By treating Mr. Ratburn's wedding as just another day in Elwood City, he presented the perfect model for normalizing gay relationships. It's not a new concept for "Arthur" to be a frist at something, though. This show has always been one step ahead in terms of representation and tackling tough issues. It's dealt with bullying, dyslexia, cross-cultural understanding, and even Asperger's syndrome—all while keeping things real and accessible. Its approach to gay representation was no different. The power of "Arthur" lies in its simplicity. Its ability to portray life as is, without sugar-coating or unnecessary dramatization, is something to be lauded. If more shows took this route—featuring gay relationships as a normal part of life, not a spectacle or a token—we might find a more accepting, understanding generation growing up in front of our screens. Let's remember: kids will emulate what they see. So, let them see love, in all its forms, in its simple ways. Imagine a series where these characters' relationship takes center stage, where being gay isn't a dramatic twist but just a part of their reality. If Arthur and Mr. Ratburn have shown us anything, it's that this kind of representation can exist, and it's about time we saw more of it. In my experience as a beta reader and editor for All Ages of Geek's and Stec Studio's "I Married a Monster on a Hill," which primarily explores gay relationships, I've learned that simplicity can often yield the most profound impact. The focus of the story isn't on being dramatic or showcasing an "us vs them" narrative but about portraying gay men and gay characters as integral, normalized parts of contemporary life. Here's how to take a page from Arthur's playbook when creating your own characters and storylines: Making Characters More Than Their Labels First, create your characters as people, not labels. Take Mr. Ratburn from "Arthur" or the characters in "I Married a Monster on a Hill." They're known for their unique personalities, not their sexuality. Make your characters interesting and multi-dimensional. Their sexuality is only a part of who they are. Make Gay Relationships a Normal Part of Life "Arthur" made history by showing a same-sex wedding just like any other wedding. It was simple and joyful. In your storytelling, represent gay relationships as part of everyday life, without excessive drama. Avoid the Stereotypes Mr. Ratburn's character doesn't fit into the common clichés often seen in media when portraying gay characters. He's just himself - a beloved character who happens to be gay. Your characters should feel real and relatable, not built on stereotypes. Weave it into the Story Mr. Ratburn's wedding was part of the overall plot of "Arthur" but didn't take over the story. In the same way, a character's sexuality doesn't have to be their whole story. It's part of their life, but there are many other aspects to explore. Show Real Life "Arthur" reflects the diverse world kids grow up in today. Show this in your storytelling. Teach kids that love comes in many forms, and that's normal and okay. In short, when you're writing, take cues from "Arthur." Show gay characters and relationships as a normal part of life. Focus on the beauty of everyday life and love in all its forms. This is the approach that will create authentic, relatable stories. "Arthur" has set the bar high, but it's a goal worth striving for. In the meantime, I'll keep my fingers crossed and my eyes on the screen, waiting for the day when love—no matter what form it takes—is just another part of the story. Because isn't that what it should be? Just a part of life, pure, simple, and beautifully ordinary.

Yaoi Game Jam has already kicked off on June 15th, running all the way through to August 21st. And yes, we at Boys Love Universe are thrilled! The game jam features games revolving around male-identified characters in queer relationships. While we aren't participating this year with our visual novel universe "I Married a Monster on a Hill", we will be supporting the creators who spend time making Yaoi exclusive content. This event, which first drew inspiration from the Yuri Game Jam of Fall 2015, has blossomed into a communal space where creators gather to craft games focused on queer male experiences. These narratives can span from platonic friendships to whirlwind romances and everything in between. Here's a fun fact for the curious mind: you can dive into the treasures from previous years, starting from 2016 right up to 2022. Go on, immerse yourself in an array of games that came to life during these jams, and you'll get an idea of the brilliance that the Yaoi Game Jam encourages. Now, if you're wondering about the guiding principles for this year's jam, the rules are pretty straightforward. First and foremost, your game must focus on the queer male experience or queer relationships between men. This includes all male-identified LGBTQIA characters, so it's as inclusive as it gets. You might be a novice game developer or a seasoned pro, everyone is welcome to join in. However, creators are urged to be mindful of their themes and material to respect fellow creators and players' sensibilities. Another important point to remember is that all games submitted must be new and created exclusively for YaoiGameJam2023. At BLU, we live and breathe Yaoi, and our founders, the Stec Sisters, Katya and Tatiana, are thrilled to announce that they'll be doing gameplays of the games from Yaoi Game Jam. We're all about spotlighting queer narratives, and what better way to do it than to engage with these games directly and introduce them to a wider audience? If you're curious on what these gameplays will look like just jump over to All Ages of Geek on YouTube. Now, the Yaoi Game Jam isn't just about churning out games; it's about furthering the representation of queer narratives in gaming.
