Bohemian Cupid Review: A Fun, Chaotic Yaoi Visual Novel

Bohemian Cupid is a straight-up romantic comedy visual novel packed with chaos, missteps, and a little self-indulgent flair. The game doesn’t take itself too seriously and gives you two different routes with wildly different vibes. Whether you’re into married couple antics or that sweet "first love" drama, Bohemian Cupid has you covered.

The cover art for the visual novel Bohemian Cupid features five characters in triangular frames arranged in a collage-style layout. In the top left, a character with short pink hair and glasses is posing playfully, while in the top right, a character with long brown hair and red eyes looks confidently off to the side. Below them are two male characters, one with glasses and scruffy facial hair, the other with black hair and a thoughtful expression. In the bottom right, a cute pink Pomeranian wearing pajamas is framed in a triangle. The background is a pink, heart-filled design, with the title "Bohemian Cupid" written in bold white letters at the bottom, adorned with heart-shaped accents.

Bohemian Cupid’s Routes: Chaos and Sweetness Collide

Route A of Bohemian Cupid throws you into the life of Zal and Miike, a married couple just trying to have a normal day together. Zal, bless his poor unlucky soul, has all these fancy dates planned. But as the universe would have it, nothing goes the way it should. Watching them stumble through disasters is the perfect blend of comedy and romance. Zal’s bad luck and Miike’s reactions are what keep this route fun and relatable—married life at its finest, right? It’s playful, lighthearted, and keeps you guessing at how bad things can actually get. Spoiler: they get pretty damn bad.

A scene from the visual novel Bohemian Cupid featuring Zal and Miike at an amusement park. Zal, with short messy hair and casual clothes, looks flustered as he holds a map that's upside down. Miike, his husband with long brown hair and a relaxed style, stands beside him laughing gently at Zal's misfortune. They are surrounded by colorful rides and game stalls. The dialogue box at the bottom reads, "Zal: I swear the entrance was this way... Miike: Maybe we should ask for directions?"

Then there's Route B, and this one’s got more of that deep-feels vibe. Izuki falls for Nathan, a dude with amnesia. And if you know anything about romance, that trope is gold. Watching Izuki and Nathan navigate their relationship as Nathan’s memories slowly trickle back is equal parts sweet and heartbreaking. There are these tender moments where both characters realize things about themselves, and the relationship just feels real. It’s raw and shows how fragile first love can be.

Both routes in Bohemian Cupid give you a good end and a bad end, so if you’re looking to feel everything from joy to heartbreak, this game has you covered. Plus, unlocking CGs and achievements is a nice little bonus.

Bohemian Cupid’s Art and Design: Cute as Hell

Bohemian Cupid doesn’t just hit hard with the story; it’s got some damn good art too. Nevi and Meiri Games knocked it out of the park with the sprites and CGs. There are a total of ten full illustrations, and each one brings the characters to life. Whether it's Zal tripping over his date plans or Izuki holding Nathan close during one of those tear-jerking moments, the art just nails it. And let's not forget the pink Pomeranian in jammies. Like, come on—if that’s not reason enough to play, I don’t know what is.

Bohemian Cupid’s Overall Vibe: Comedy Meets Heart

Bohemian Cupid knows what it is: a self-indulgent, romantic comedy visual novel with yaoi flair. It’s goofy when it needs to be and serious when it counts. The game’s 22k word count doesn’t drag, and it keeps things fresh. Made for Yaoi Game Jam 2024, it’s the kind of game that’s perfect when you need something light but with enough depth to keep you hooked. Plus, with its two routes and multiple endings, you get a lot of replay value.

In the end, Bohemian Cupid does what it sets out to do: makes you laugh, cry, and root for these chaotic couples. Whether you’re a fan of married couple disasters or that slow-burn first love, this game’s got a little something for every yaoi fan.

Final Thoughts on Bohemian Cupid

Bohemian Cupid by Nevi and Meiri Games is a solid entry in the yaoi visual novel world. It’s funny, heartwarming, and a little ridiculous in all the best ways. If you want a game that makes you laugh and feel, this is the one to pick up. The two distinct routes give you variety, the art’s on point, and the story has enough twists to keep you entertained. Play it for the chaotic dates, stay for the amnesiac love story. Oh, and the pink Pomeranian. Play Bohemian Cupid right on Itch.io.
