After We Gazed at the Starry Sky: A Heartfelt BL Romance with Inspiring Disability Representation

After We Gazed at the Starry Sky is a refreshing addition to the BL manga world, and I’m so happy to see disability representation done right! Subaru Miyazawa isnot only easy to relate to but also incredibly endearing, especially with his passion for the night sky and his admiration for photographer Tougo Amase. The way this manga handles Subaru's disability is really touching—having a character in a wheelchair as the center of a love story is such a positive step forward and RARE especially in the BL scene.

The art is sweet and captures the emotions of the characters beautifully. The focus on close-ups of Subaru and Tougo really helps you connect with them, and their expressions are just adorable. And those night sky scenes? They’re not just pretty to look at—they’re crucial to the story and add so much depth.

The story is told from Subaru’s point of view, which makes his journey through love and self-acceptance feel so personal. Tougo’s casual attitude toward Subaru’s disability is wonderful—it’s like their love story was meant to be! Subaru’s struggles with insecurity are portrayed in a way that feels genuine, and it’s impossible not to cheer him on as he figures out his feelings for Tougo. It is also very wholesome.

It is refreshing to see a healthy relationship while showcasing and representing disabilities in BL. More BL needs to showcase relationships like this!

After We Gazed at the Starry Sky

After We Gazed at the Starry Sky is a must-read for BL fans, especially if you’re looking for a story that brings disability representation to the forefront with care and warmth. I’m already counting down the days until the sequel—Subaru and Tougo’s story is one I can’t wait to see more of!
