To Kill Eros Interview: Inside the 18+ Dark Fantasy BL Visual Novel

If you are looking for a new game to play and LOVE BL visual novels check out To Kill Eros! We had the pleasure of chatting with the creator to learn more about this visual novel!

1. Tell us about  To Kill Eros (BL Visual Novel)

To Kill Eros is an 18+ dark fantasy romance where the journey to achieve romance can feel a little deadly! In the heart of a fictional city named Quasimere, you follow the story of Melrose Figueroa—a snappy 28-year-old delivery man whose love life has a track record so horrible that he might actually be cursed. In a world where believing in and praying to Eros, the feeling becomes believable when Melrose is reminded of his entangled history with this god. A tale of love passed down for generations manifests into a beautiful family heirloom, leading to a dangerous, dare I say, petty solution—killing the god of love.

2. What can  BL fans expect?

Fans can expect an emotionally compelling story that tackles the themes of “Is there someone for everyone?” and “Everyone is deserving of love.” While pursuing the 4 Love Interests, players will have choices to positively or negatively influence Melrose in moments that will either progress the story or immediately spiral it out of control, leading to a bad ending. All endings and all routes are essential and add context to piecing together the overall story and truth of To Kill Eros!

3. Tell us about your characters?

Melrose Figueroa sits as the beloved main protagonist! Often foolhardy in his pursuits, a few individuals—his best friend and a landlady—keep him grounded in this world that feels largely against him. More than half of his romantic partners have left him soured and jaded with his love life, but his fire has yet to burn out. It’s at its most desperate hour, and he will almost accept and do anything to feel the love he dreams of. His family heirloom, a fountain pen, fuels this ambition as it exposes him to his new companions—as well as foes!

There are 4 love interests! Three of which will give fans an insight into the main story, while the last serves as a bonus.

First in line is Icardi—the scouting cupid. A lovable goofball dedicated to his job of matchmaking! While the world around him might not be as friendly and inviting, Icardi is the sunshine in the dark. He is always a good boy. I think those who prefer a sweet relationship will enjoy his route!

Second, we have Dr. Love—the love forecaster. A rich CEO and radio host of the popular Lovelife Studio, which also acts as a dating agency for the common folks in Quasimere. Admired for his unnatural beauty and captivating eyes, he may appear to be unapproachable, but that’s merely his appearance. I’ve seen comments about his laid-back nature, and I agree! A romance with him may be more appealing to those seeking a mature and chill relationship.

Vitale is the mysterious “god of something”. People don’t know much about him, and he prefers to keep it that way for now. But everything surrounding him is not what it seems. Two things are certain: Melrose falls into his plans regardless of what he does, and Vitale is always watching—mostly anyway. To keep it a mystery, I’ll refrain from giving a vague clue to the type of relationship he’d have, haha!

To Kill Eros

And finally, the last love interest! I’ve had questions about this, but yes, Melrose will date Eros himself. Unfortunately, I cannot tease much about his character compared to the others just yet. However, if fans enjoy an enemies-to-lovers plot, then his route might be pretty fun!

Additionally, there are the supporting cast members, ranging from friends, foes and two of Melrose’s exes. But to save from a longer list of introductions, I will say that this cast bounces off each other (Melrose included) colorfully!

4. What are the inspirations behind this game?

There are quite a few inspirations, with the first being Greek mythology and the story behind Psyche and Eros. While creating the story for To Kill Eros, I chose an original take regarding the gods and the romance between those two. Another highlighted inspiration is Slow Damage for its depth in conveying a beautiful story featuring massively flawed characters. Even though I don’t believe To Kill Eros wholly matches the intensity of that story, I had to build the characters with nuances so that they aren’t entirely good or evil—most of them, anyway. I do believe that if fans enjoyed that BL, then they may have fun with To Kill Eros as well.

To name a few other loose inspirations, I’d say, Virche Evermore (Otome title), Cupid Parasite (Otome title), and After Killing You (Korean Webtoon by Ttangjwi and Mulyang)!

5. What are the goals for this game?

Initially, this game started as a passion project for me to finish one of my works. I had only intended to share it with a few friends, especially since I wrote it when I felt most vulnerable with my love life. As I continued to work through it, I believed the story could resonate with others who feel the same to some degree, or even entertain those seeking a new, captivating, and thought-provoking story.

In the last question, I mentioned Slow Damage being an inspiration. One thing I remember fondly is the sense of satisfaction I felt upon completing the game. It was very emotional and kept me talking about it fondly, even thinking about the characters and their dynamics long after. The shoes to fill there are large, but if I can evoke a similar reaction that leaves fans feeling satisfied with the story, then I’d consider that a significant achievement.

6. Where can folks support your work?
